Hi! It's almost the end of July and the month has been great so far. 
A lot has been happening, first off is I have revamped my website
separating my Illustration works from my Ceramics 
(links also available at this blog's top nav bar)

Second is National Children's Book Day last July 16
which was held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.


(I'm into this bad habit of not taking good pictures at special events)
Culminating activities include the awarding of PBBY Salanga and Alcala winners.
A big congratulations to fellow InKie, Domz Agsaway for winning the Alcala prize!

New titles for 2013 were also released.
There was a post-event book launching of the children's book EDSA
written by Russel Molina and illustrated by Sergio Bumatay III
under Adarna House

I also bought copies of my friend Jamie Bauza's book
Sandwich to the Moon (her original story) and another story she illustrated Photo Album 
A lot of other INK members also released their titles (I have one too) so I'm really happy for the group!





The Ang INK's Sawikain Exhibit was also moved to the CCP!

In other news: I am back to taking pottery lessons at UP with guest facilitator, Pete Cortes. 
I just want to share that Pete was my first teacher in ceramics 
circa 2008 at the Pettyjohn Workshop at Glorietta 4!

Also this weekend, my friends and I joined our very first craft fair at 10A Alabama as Speculiars!
It was a fun event big thanks to friends and new friends who supported our products

Curious Buffet exhibit happened last June 29.  I am still on post-exhibit high after the event.

Ode to Common Things

I have a crazy,
crazy love of things.
I like pliers,
and scissors.
I love
cups,
rings,
and bowls -
not to speak, or course,
of hats.
I love
all things,
not just
the grandest,
also
the
infinitely
small -
thimbles,
spurs,
plates,
and flower vases.
Oh yes,
the planet
is sublime!
It's full of pipes
weaving
hand-held
through tobacco smoke,
and keys
and salt shakers -
everything,
I mean,
that is made
by the hand of man, every little thing:
shapely shoes,
and fabric,
and each new
bloodless birth
of gold,
eyeglasses
carpenter's nails,
brushes,
clocks, compasses,
coins, and the so-soft
softness of chairs.
Mankind has
built
oh so many
perfect
things!
Built them of wool
and of wood,
of glass and
of rope:
remarkable
tables,
ships, and stairways.
I love
all
things,
not because they are
passionate
or sweet-smelling
but because,
I don't know,
because
this ocean is yours,
and mine;
these buttons
and wheels
and little
forgotten
treasures,
fans upon
whose feathers
love has scattered
its blossoms
glasses, knives and
scissors -
all bear
the trace
of someone's fingers
on their handle or surface,
the trace of a distant hand
lost
in the depths of forgetfulness.
I pause in houses,
streets and
elevators
touching things,
identifying objects
that I secretly covet;
this one because it rings,
that one because
it's as soft
as the softness of a woman's hip,
that one there for its deep-sea color,
and that one for its velvet feel.
O irrevocable
river
of things:
no one can say
that I loved
only
fish,
or the plants of the jungle and the field,
that I loved
only
those things that leap and climb, desire, and survive.
It's not true:
many things conspired
to tell me the whole story.
Not only did they touch me,
or my hand touched them:
they were
so close
that they were a part
of my being,
they were so alive with me
that they lived half my life
and will die half my death.

Curious Things

We will be having a group show this Saturday (June 29) at Post (formerly Pablo gallery) at Cubao X. If you're curious enough, feel free to drop by our Curious Buffet! It is a showcase of kitchen wares from pots to pans to plates and spoons with a dash of art and a pint of creative juices! I'll be displaying my ceramics and some weird creature from -gasp- a coconut grater. :))

Unfortunately, my intended set of works didn't make it on time for the exhibit 
but I'll find good use for it in the future. 

On a different note, here are some recent and not so recent works from the wood-fired kiln.

Some odd shape that was part of a bigger piece but broke off.


I got this jar from the kiln just a few days ago and I love Joey de Castro's blue glaze! 




I am almost sure I colored these green but it turned out blue. 
A thing with ceramics is do not expect too much, there will always be something that turns out differently
And I am genuinely in love with the imperfections.
(Same goes with life)

Looking back at 2012

Leaving traces, 
wasting.
Like I have
 nothing to lose

2012 was definitely a good year. There was less of traveling but there is more personal growth going around.
My creative juices have suddenly came to life. From a still-recovering-from-burnout phase to an 
I-don't-care-if-it-fucking-hurts-I'm-going-to-make-art. I am still going to choose art no matter


1.  Joined Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan this year!  Met awesome people as well 2. Takatak Exhibit 3. Being a Studio Assistant at Clay Ave Pottery Studio for the Summer. Including a stint at the US Embassy! And definitely being more into ceramics 4. Ang InK's 21st Annual Exhibit 5. Experiment! It pays off in the end


My ceramic journey has also been awesome thanks to Pottery fieldtrips and studio time. To which you have heard numerous times in this blog!
Thank you for the following people: 

1. Ugu Bigyan || Tiaong, Quezon 2. Jon Pettyjohn || Calamba, Laguna 
3. Mia Casal || Quezon City 4. Anton || UP




 And all else that makes this year memorable.

1. Got Bailey (Pomeranian) this year! I now have three dogs in captivity as pets. 2. "Cultural tours" aka hanging out with my favorite people at National Museum or CCP. More Manila gala and less flying  3. Foodtrips with friends! 4. Usual trips to Polillo or Real, Quezon. Finished painting our resthouse, yeah. 5. And a recent trip to a waterfalls that I haven't shared yet :)

It's also this year that we moved house and I got special projects. This is a transition year for me. Grateful for all the changes that happened and I hope 2013 will be awesome as well. 

 To all people who has been part of my 2012, Thank you very much!

Mabubulaklak na Dila: Ang InK's 21st Annual Exhibition
I've posted about this exhibit a week ago here, I just want to share my piece :)
My sawikain or idiom was "Di Makabasag Pinggan" which literally translates to "can't break a platter/ plate" Figuratively speaking, it means demure or a prim-and-proper person.



I actually made two versions. I didn't submit the Gazelle for the exhibit because there is something off with her arms.

Pottery Update: 
I'm currently experimenting on ceramic decals. I'm not sure if this is acceptable practice but I painted directly on the decal paper as opposed to printing it on inkjet printer because apparently, printers don't have white ink.  I could have just drawn directly on the pot too, I know.


(I can't get the picture to rotate for some reason)
